This is my first traditionally published book, and I’m incredibly excited about it.

CH The point is, Flex is right: the real world is the natural habitat of most women. Jerry, in an early Seinfeld episode, points this out to. The real world is where women go about their business and, as every fisherman and Aquaman knows, you have to fish where the fish are. But first, I want to share two important principles that you should keep in mind when mining for that heart of gold.
The 13th Warrior for lessons in developing social skills, The Geek’s Guide to Dating is never less than inventive in its use of pop culture.

As a Geek, I’ve really enjoyed listening to this book. The analogies and geek references were funny and useful to explain how to handle or behave in some of the IRL situations explained. However, I would have loved a better subdivision of the book content. Because, sometimes it feels like there are too many informations just in one chapter. In conclusion, I liked this book so much, that I’m thinking to buy a physical copy and recommend it to some friends.

Don’t let The Geek’s Guide to Dating fool you. And sure it’s chock full of cleverly funny pop culture geek references. But it turns out it’s actually a practical, well, guide — a well-thought-out and presented reference for anyone who has or knows someone who has trouble using geekdom to their dating advantage.
And if this book stands to prove anything, it’s that geekdom is an advantage. Odds are you’re a geek about something, whether it’s spelled out here or not. Referring to the reader as Player One who’s seeking a Player Two. This guide provides the most basic advice for the most novice of love-seekers, as well as some creative nuggets for those who consider themselves experts. But as author Eric Smith discovered, a guide to dating can be just as helpful to someone already in a relationship.
And let’s just say: if you don’t find your heart even a little touched when Smith reveals the surprises he encountered writing it, then you might be involuntarily single and you should read it immediately. You know, I love answering this question because I think the book came about in the most unconventional way. For years, I’ve been writing about geek culture, particularly in Philadelphia. I ramble about local video game developers, comic book artists, events, etc. On top of that, geek culture has played a big part in my career.

Calling all geeks! Ever wonder how to catch the eye of that gorgeous fellow geek? In this hilarious guide to dating , Eric Smith takes the geeky reader through the various stages of getting the date then beginning a relationship or, reality check: possibly moving on after that date. The chapter titles are given geeky titles, mapping the dating landscape like an old school s video game with some fun Star Trek and Star Wars references thrown in.
The book offers some pretty common sense tips on dating: start a conversation rather than a debate, clean out the junk in your car before picking your date up, put some effort into your outfit, and so on. Still, what sets this book apart, and makes it so much fun, is that all the tips are couched in geeky language — video game terms and science fiction references. A list of scenarios with tips on how to deal with them includes meeting someone at a video game store, or improving your online dating profile.
Minor complaint is that the book is completely geared to male geek readers. Smith does address this in the beginning of the book, and explains that while the text is ostensibly directed at males, a lot of the tips are equally applicable to female geeks. Fair enough, but as a female geek, I would have loved to see at least a gender neutral geek guide to dating, and if the tips are applicable to both genders anyway, why not write them as such? Or perhaps add some chapters dedicated to challenges particular to geeks from each gender.
Given how many books and publications on geekdom are already geared towards male geeks, it would be nice to have one written with a female geek audience in mind. Any female geek humourists up to the challenge?

Would I be happy with what I see? More importantly, would he? After all, I am a colossal, yet fun, nerd. Movie Geek? I know I am. Next, where should I go to meet geeks and non-geeks. Smith offers suggestions. No seems kind of predatory and gross. Uh, definitely not me. This one is still where my husband and I like to visit on both family and date nights. His dark jeans with a blazer idea… go for it, boys! However, I like that, because what he is saying to his fellow geek dudes and all men, actually is great, and much of it is what we geek gals or all gals, for that matter have been trying to say.
Unfortunately taking a look at my own dialogue, I can often be guilty of the same thing.
